SURGE

A surge is a sudden, brief spike in electrical voltage or current in a power system. It typically lasts only microseconds to milliseconds but can reach thousands of volts. Surges can be caused by lightning strikes, power grid switching, or electrical equipment turning on and off. Surges can damage sensitive electronics, including LED drivers and lighting systems. That’s why many LED drivers, especially for outdoor use, come with built-in surge protection to prevent failures and extend the life of the equipment.
